Fogtography

See what I did there?!I remembered to throw the camera in yesterday, on what’s fast becoming known around here as ‘Runaway Thursday’. Thursdays are the day I don’t have to run off to my beloved dayjob straight after school dropoff, and I can take my time meandering home on the backroads - and we do have some beautiful winding backroads here in the Mid North of SA. I may also have extended it to Runaway Friday today – my love for photographing in foggy conditions just wasn’t to be ignored today. All of these were taken within 5 minutes of here, barring the dust storm shots (Riverland).

Inevitably the weather is shoddy, I’m wearing the wrong shoes, and I’m freezing my butt off. But the sky is irresistible; worth tracking mud into my car, and temporarily shirking my other {boring} responsibilities. There’s a constant hum of tractors, sprayers, trucks and augers, as they work around the clock to get this year’s crops in the ground.

The first few photos were taken with an older iPhone…not something one should probably do on a photography website, but these were opportunistic shots when caught short without my camera on a short roadtrip. One day it’s blowing dust  and rain sideways (in that order!); the next day autumn is threatening to stomp off and leave winter to its devices. As miserable as the conditions were, they do add something that you just can’t Photoshop in. This time of year sees the influence of colour exit stage left, and textures and contrast take centre stage.  Black and white is the perfect thing for many of these scenes.
